If you’ve always wanted to try out a pottery class, this is the perfect place to start. In this fun beginner friendly workshop, you will learn how to wheel throw your own creation from scratch! We would be delighted to see you for an intensive hand throwing workshop at our studio. You will work on your own pottery wheel to shape clay, with demonstrations by our pottery teacher, who will guide you to learn throwing techniques. We have chosen to have one instructor for a maximum of 5 participants, so that there is enough guidance in teaching.
Throughout the class you will be led through a step-by-step demonstration on how to create bowls, cups, or a planter. You will then be set free to make your own shapes with the instructor on hand for guidance. We encourage everyone to add their own touches and artistic flair, so they have a truly one-of-a-kind functional creation. You will then be able to choose one of our core glaze colors to finish your piece. Firing and glazing will be done by Atelier van de Ven. Once your pieces are ready, you will be notified via email for a pickup moment.
What we’ll be doing
- working with high quality stoneware clay
- you will be learning wheelthrowing techniques to make some bowls, cups or a planter
- clay,tools, and firings for 2 or 3 finished items are included
- glazing will be done for you afterwards in the studio of Atelier van de Ven
- firing will be done at a high temperature, so your items will be strong and durable and perfect for everyday use
- 5 to 8 weeks after the workshop you can come and collect your beautiful, finished pieces
What you’ll bring
- comfortable clothes, ideally something you don’t mind getting dirty. A lab coat will be provided.
- no experience is required, anyone can join in
- short nails are advised as long nails tend to gouge pieces of clay out as you are throwing and making an object
- we recommend that you remove any jewelry, rings, watches or long necklaces as they may be prone to getting scratched/filled with clay during your session
